The 16th TRS was briefly assigned to 475th TFW at Misawa from March 1970 until March 1971, flying UE coded RF-4Cs. It then moved back to the US (to 363rd TRW at Shaw AFB).

Rare picture of BC coded RF-4C of 12 TRS. This tailcode was only carried for a few months in late 1971 and early 1972. This RF-4C was later delivered to South Korea.

RF-4Cs 67-0433 and 67-0443 probably over Germany during the 12th TRS 1981 Salty Bee deployment to Zweibrücken. Salty Bee 1981 brought 18 Phantoms from Bergstrom to Zweibrücken (aircraft belonging to 12 TRS and 91 TRS).

The 153rd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron was part of the Mississippi Air National Guard and based at Key Field ANGB. The squadron is currently equipped with KC-135 Stratotankers, but in the old days - after the prop era - it flew jets like the RF-80 Shooting Star, RF-84F Thunderflash, RF-101C Voodoo and these nice RF-4C Phantoms IIs. This 418 was temporary based at Bergstrom and a nice change to the massive number of photographed BA-coded Recce Phantoms that day.

As part of the Tactical Air Command, the 91st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron flew its missions beginning in July 1971. It conducted reconnaissance training of USAF, US Marine Corps, and allied RF-4 reconnaissance aircrews between 1982 and 1989 and acted as adviser to Air National Guard reconnaissance units until 1992. As part of the closure of Bergstrom AFB (TX) and retirement of the RF-4C the 91st was inactivated on 30 August 1991. The squadron bird of the 91st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron "Demon Chasers". Moved to AMARC on 7 Aug'92 and got inventory FP882 assigned, was selected for the QRF-4C program and left for BAE Systems, Mojave (CA) on 25 Jan'11. The QRF was assigned to the 82nd ATRS at Tyndall AFB (FL) and received code AF-390

Grainy photo of RF-4C 69-0364 that crashed on 6 November 1985 while climbing out of Zweibrücken. Unfortunately, I used Ilford HP5 film on this day. This is a ISO 400 film, nice for dark weather, but way too grainy, so I switched to PAN F (ISO 50) later. Both are still available in 2020!

68-0580 used to be assigned to the 26th TRW at Zweibrucken AB, Germany, before being parked at AMARG as FP781 in 1991. In 2012 she left AMARG for BAe Systems at Mojave, CA to be converted to QRF-4C Full Scale Aerial Target (AF407), and was assigned to the 82nd Aerial Target Squadron at Tyndall AFB, FL. She was the last QRF-4C in the inventory of the 82nd to be destroyed over the missile range over the Gulf of Mexico on May 12th, 2015.
