The trip would take her around the Atlantic Ocean, routing to Africa via the Canary Islands and returning in June 2004 via Brazil. Since their contract had been cancelled in May 2004 they were waiting for another smoky start-up. For that, their remaining service life had to be established, a tough and costly operation. A classic cockpit designed primarily for visual manoeuvring but of course supporting IFR operations. Tanker 139 retained the long tail cone that used to house the MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) sensors while Tanker 140 received a short version.
