This is a non-flying replica built by Qantas. It is of the airline's first aircraft . That was an Australian made 504K fitted with a Sunbeam Dyak engine. Became G-AUBG. and later VH-UBG. Withdrawn from use in 1932. In 1965 Qantas fitted a Dyak engine to a borrowed 504K, A3-4, owned by the Australian War Memorial. It was painted like the replica. Returned in 1987 with its rotary engine refitted and in RAAF markings. Qantas by then had built two replicas of G-AUBG, one of which is pictured.

The Avro 504L was originally a seaplane - note the added tailfin. This was one of six such aircraft constructed from spares by A.V. Roe at Hamble in 1919. G-EANB sold to Sweden as S-IAA and based in remote Porjus on behalf of a hydropower project. The logo still visible on the fin is associated with this. To S-ABAA and sold to AB Göteborgs Luftdroskor (Gothenburg Air Taxi). G-AUBG prior to receiving its registration. It remained with QANTAS until November 1926 when it was sold. Became VH-UBG when Australia adopted that prefix in 1929 and was struck off the register in April 1932 after the CoA expired. The engine is a Sunbeam Dyak. RAAF 504K A3-4 was lent to Qantas in 1965, fitted with a Dyak and painted to represent G-AUBG. This aircraft was returned to the Australian War Memorial in 1987. It had been replaced by a replica of G-AUBG now displayed at the Qantas Founders Museum at Longreach. Photo from: National Library of Australia
