Operated by 442 Sqn since May 1970 and meanwhile destined for the Comox Air Force Museum.

Delivered as DHC-5D c/n 95 to the Oman Police in May 1979. Back to Canada in June 1994 and retrofitted to civil standards (-5A model). Was allocated revised c/n 95A. Then based in Mauritius, Kenya and the DR Congo until ferried back again, via Rotterdam among other stops, in Spring 2005. To Arctic Sunwest Charters after that, merging into Summit Air in May 2013 retaining the previous colours. Left for Africa again in August 2015, flying for the UN in Malawi.

Built in 1979 and delivered to the Oman Police Air Wing in May 1979 as A4O-CE. To Arctic Sunwest Charters in April 2005 as C-FASV. To Summit Air in September 2012. By December 2015 it was registered to the United Nations as 7Q-STB.

Soon, the reliable Buffalo will have reached the end of its long career with the RCAF. They contributed to the rescue of many people over the years and will be missed when they are gone.

Definitely one of my more exotic catches in my collection is this Buffalo of the Egypt Air Force. According to online databases this aircraft was first noted in 1982 and is said to be still operational today.

This unique DHC-5 Quiet Short-Haul Research Aircraft (QSRA) variant was a NASA research aircraft modified to study and develop Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) technology. The QSRA was among other things modified with 4 Lycoming F102 turbofan engines. It first flew in this configuration in 1978. This aircraft even performed a landing and takeoff on the US aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, (of course) requiring neither arresting gear nor catapult launch. The techniques learned from this Buffalo stood model for the Boeing YC-14/C-17 programme and is now preserved at Moffett Museum's airpark (CA)
