This MH-47E was once delivered as CH-47C 74-22289 and accepted on 31 Aug'76. It was converted to MH-47E 91-00497 and delivered to the 2-160th SOAR on 21 Oct'93. The special ops Chinook crashlanded on 11 July 2006 near Sangin (Afghanistan) during operation Mountain Thrust, the damaged airframe was destroyed by coalition forces in an airstrike. Multiple 1-160th CH-47Ds, MH-47Gs, UH-60Ls and two HMX-1 VH-60Ns landed on or near HQ ISAF that is close to the US Embassy. Overhead was an AC-130 and a flight of A-10s gave Close Air Support while F-16s gave top cover. Quite an operation!

This H-47 was once delivered to the US Army as CH-47C with serial 68-15846. It was converted to CH-47D with serial 88-00101 and redelivered on 25 Nov'89. It served for quite a long time - until '11 - the US Army in Europe from Coleman Barracks (Germany). When 101 was deployed to Dublin in support of President Obama's visit to Ireland, it was damaged during its landing in bad weather. The helo was then picked up by an USAF C-17A on 3 Jun'11 and flown back to USA. Luckily, it was inducted into the CH-47F conversion programme, cvtd to CH-47F as 11-08095. On this picture it served F/159th AVN.

This rare Aero Commander arrived at the museum in 1988, in the US Army AVRADCOM markings it was last operated in. By the mid 1990s the museum had it repainted in fake and boring all-grey USAF markings, but fortunately they eventually saw the error of their ways and in 2008 it was restored in these original and very nice AVRADCOM markings.
