Late 1995 the aircraft it moved to the Liberian register as EL-AKR followed in mid-1996 to YA-PAA in Afghanistan. The ANA-AC painted it as 00406. It was reported withdrawn from use in 2009.

Antonov 32 of the Fixed Wing of the then Afghan National Army - Air Corps. The 342 was delivered to the ANA-AC in April 1991 in a green/brown colour scheme. Late 2004 the aircraft was overhauled at Ivanovo-Severny (Russia) and redelivered to Afghanistan early 2005 in this boring overall grey colour scheme. The aircraft only continued operations for a few years as it was withdrawn from use in 2011. It was scrapped (unconfirmed) at Kabul in 2012.

Parked in a corner of the old civil platform of Kabul International Airport was this Boeing 727 of Freedom Air. The aircraft is named after Nigerian aviation entrepreneur and founder of Kano-based Kabo Air, Muhammadu (Mohd) Adamu Dankabo, who carried the honourary title of Jarman Kano and who passed away in April 2002. In March 2007 Ariana Afghan Airlines took over this aircraft as YA-FAT.

Just arrived for its new mission over Afghanistan, this Russian UN Humanitarian Air Services Mi-8 Hip was bought by an An-124 transport aircraft to the Asian country. The tail boom was still in its fuselage, so maintenance had a job to do.

An United Nations Humanitarian Air Services Mi-8 at the platform of Kabul The UN tried to support the Afghan humanitarian tragedy, the Afghan government as well as all military fighting for peace in the country as much as possible. This Russian Hip gave the whole transport capabilities.

The three CH-47C Chinooks of the Aviazione dell'Esercito (Italian Army Aviation) that were deployed in 2005 to Afghanistan needed armed protection during their transport missions, so three with door guns armed AB212 (Anti-Surface Warfare) helicopters of the Marina Militare (Italian Navy) were tasked with that job. Weird to see those Navy Hueys deployed in a country with hardly any water. On a rare day, no sand dust was in the air, so the great Hindu Kush mountain massif could be seen.

Saving fuel, the two outer engines were stopped, while the inner ones were used for generating speed during taxi. Fuel was scarce at Kabul and these old engines use quite a lot. Photography was not appreciated on the field, especially not outside the large platform. So a small compact camera became my friend. This Royal Canadian Air Force Hercules flew into Kabul to support the ISAF mission. The aircraft was not only tasked for the Canadians, but used to support the whole community of some 50 countries (so including a lot of NATO allies).

Three Italian CH-47C were brought to Kabul International Airport by An-124 in support of the NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan named the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The helicopters were assembled at Kabul, a maintenance guy is preparing things before the massive rotor blades could be attached.
