This is actually RB-25D USAAF s/n 43-3374 marked as B-25B 40-2344, the B-25 flown by Jimmy Doolittle during the April 1942 raid over Japan. 43-3374 was TOC 31 October 1943 and was retired in December 1957. It was then transferred to the North American Aviation plant in Inglewood, CA. There it was reconfigured to resemble Doolittle's B-25B. That was finished in April 1958 and the a/c flown to the USAF Museum. This slide was taken in the outdoor display area at the old museum. It is currently on display at the current museum in the World War Two Gallery.

Ca.1962: TOS USAF as a T-37B, then modified as the prototype T-37C. 1963: Converted to YAT-37D as prototype for a counter-insurgency attack aircraft; was given engines of 2400 lbst and six underwing pylons as well as the wing-tip fuel tanks. 12/64: Flown to the Air Force Museum. 8/66: Returned to service with the USAF due to high losses of A-1 Skyraiders in Vietnam. Testing was resumed as the aircraft was redesignated YA-37A as a prototype for the A-37A, and later brought up to A-37A standards. 7/70: Flown to the Air Force Museum.

Ca.1962: TOS USAF as a T-37B, then modified as the prototype T-37C. 1963: Converted to YAT-37D as prototype for a counter-insurgency attack aircraft; was given engines of 2400 lbst and six underwing pylons as well as the wing-tip fuel tanks. 12/64: Flown to the Air Force Museum. 8/66: Returned to service with the USAF due to high losses of A-1 Skyraiders in Vietnam. Testing was resumed as the aircraft was redesignated YA-37A as a prototype for the A-37A, and later brought up to A-37A standards. 7/70: Flown to the Air Force Museum.

In the background is the YB-36A, 42-13571, which was scrapped when the museum moved to it's current location. It was salvaged by Walter Soplata and parts are reported to still be on his property in Ohio.

It was acquired by the USAFM in 1965 from Air France, where it was used in their training school near Paris. This is a combat veteran, having seen action with the Free French Air Force during the last months of WW 2.
