First flown in October 1985 and delivered to the Soviet AF in Aeroflot colours, this ill-fated Ruslan was marked as "08 black" by 1989. The aircraft was w/o on 6th December 1997 on take off from Irkutsk-2 bound for Cam Ranh via Vladivostok (with 2 Su-27s for the Vietnamese AF on board) when three engines lost power and flamed out three seconds after lift-off. It crashed into a residential complex close to the airfield with predictably tragic results

This Coaler was built in Aug-1992 as "22 blue" for the Russian KGB Border Troops. However, for the Sep-1992 Farnborough show it became Ukraine Air Force "07 red" as the An-72 demonstration aircraft with two rocket pods under the wing and a belly-mounted 23mm gun (Antonov is based at Kyiv in Ukraine). It later became "22 blue" again with the KGB Border Troops which became FSB by 1993. It became RF-72024 by 2008 and was last noted at Khabarovsk in May 2024
