Crumbling away in amongst overgrown vegetation in 2005, this area would have been a busy aerodrome scene in the early part of the last century, replete with sounds of aero engines and aviation fumes. The Control Tower's equipment was removed in 1958 and the last RAF aircraft landed at Hendon on the 19th of June 1968. The aerodrome fell silent to aircraft and became a museum and housing estate. The Graham-White offices and "Watch" Tower were eventually moved to the RAF Museum site and reconstructed, and this area became home to the new Colindale police station and a high-rise housing estate.

The 767-300 entered KLM service in 1995, replacing the A310-200, and its own replacement by the A330 was already imminent in 2005. This aircraft arrived in 1997 and would be the last one to leave the fleet in 2007.
