Delivered new as L-1049E in 1954 and converted to L-1049G in 1957. Sold to California Airmotive as N9742Z in 1962 and leased to Capitol Airways and Standard Airways. Sold to American Flyers Airline in 1964 then scrapped at Fox Field/CA by 1970.

Operated with Seaboard from new in 1954 and after a period of service with Capitol Airways it was scrapped at Wilmington/DE some time after 1967.

Withdrawn from use in 1974. Restored as VH-DCU in 1997.

The first CL44 built for the civil market. Used by Canadair for tests and demonstrations following its first flight on 16 November 1960. Sold to Loftleidir in May 1965 as TF-LLH. Obtained from Canadair 50 years ago.

My father, Rasmus Pettersen, took this picture at the old IAB at JFK. My mother and I flew in this DC-4, named "Hekla", to Norway in the summer of 1954. Shortly after this picture was taken, it was replaced by DC-6's on the North Atlantic run.
