After being exhibited at the SBAC show at Farnborough in September 1960, it was delivered on 5 January 1961 as CS-AMA. Shortly after take-off from Sintra for a local flight on 20 July 1963 it crashed at Vila Verde and burst into flames, killing all three occupants. Registration cancelled as 'Crashed'.

Pre-production aircraft. Crashed on final approach to Hatfield, whilst involved in the Red Top AAM programme, on 13th September 1962. Will have been seen by many in the famous photograph of the pilot, George Aird's ejection watched by a tractor driver.

1st pre-production aircraft with two dorsal aerial pillars. When disposed of it was reportedly acquired by Donald Campbell to use the engine for his record-breaking Bluebird K7 boat. The Gnat's fin was also incorporated into a rework of the boat's design. On 4th January 1967 Donald achieved 297 mph on his first run of the day on Coniston Water. Sadly on the required return run, K7's nose reared up, she became briefly airborne and somersaulted backwards, smashing into the lake. Donald was killed instantly and the boat was torn apart, sinking to the bottom.

Written off on 13th April 1962 in a starting explosion fire at Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire.

Saro P.531 Skeeter AOP.12 XM563 was re-engined with a Blackburn Turmo 603 gas-turbine as a development aircraft, being re-designated P.537. It was subsequently converted back to AOP.12 standard and sold 20th October 1969 at Moordrecht, Netherlands. Current with Schwabisches Bauern & Technik Museum, Seifertshofen, Germany in November 2004.

Second production aircraft. Made emergency landing at Waddington 21st June 1960. Not repaired and allocated 9092M. Scrapped in May 1995. Cockpit preserved, last reported in Essex in 2020.

Returning to land after a 22-hour patrol, a daily feature of the 1960 show. Aircraft involved during the week were also WR979 "M", XF709 "N", XF708 "O" & XF707 "P". To the dump at Abingdon in June 1971.
