Although marked as RR-5 Bureau Number 9205, this is actually 4-AT-E N7861 which never was assigned to the US Navy. It was originally built in 1928 as a 4-AT-B and converted by the factory in 1929 to a 4-AT-E. N7861 spent most of its flying career with Johnson Flying Service, where it was used as an insect spray aircraft as well as under contract with the US Forest Service as a smoke jumper transport. It was donated to the museum in 1973. The US Navy and US Marine Corps had a total of 9 Ford Tri-Motors of various types in their inventory, all ordered between 1927-1931.

By 1975: Naval Aviation museum, marked as it was when in service with VA-83.

4/60: TOS USN as A3D-2T. 7/62: Redesignated TA-3B. 1987: Bailed to Chrysler Technologies Airborne Systems.1989: Converted to ERA-3B assigned to VQ-2, NS Rota Spain. By 8/90: VQ-2 as an EA-3B. Ca.12/90 to ca.4/91: Deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm.  15 Mar 1994; Bailed to Raytheon Corporation and registered N875RS. 20 Jun 2011: Flown to the Naval Aviation Museum.

30 Jul 1956: TOS USN as A3D-1, assigned to VAH-1. 4/58: VAH-3 and deployed aboard USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. 8/59: VAH-123. 7/62: Redesignated A-3A. 9/63: Placed in storage at NAS Litchfield, AZ. 12/65: MASDC. 8/66: NARF at NAS Alameda; converted to EA-3A. 10/66: Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E), Pacific Missile Test Center, NAS Point Mugu, CA. 12/74: NARF, NAS Pensacola, FL; modifications were removed and redesignated A-3A. 5 Dec 1974: SOC and given to the Naval Aviation Museum.

The next day it was ferried to the NNAM by the pilot of the last combat mission.

This is B-25J 44-29035 marked as Col. James Doolittle's B-25B. On display outside the museum atrium on April 18, 2017, the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle raid on Japan. This a/c was acquired by the museum in 1998, and for many years was marked as a PBJ-1. It is now on display inside the main museum building in the WW2 gallery.

Retired to the museum in 2011.

The USMC tested 5 YRON-1 one person helicopters for possible use as reconnaissance platforms as well as for airdropping them to downed pilots in enemy territory. It was not accepted for use as it was too heavy and somewhat difficult to fly. It did, however, go on to serve as the basis for the Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH ASW drone which was in operational service aboard USN ships for many years. 4013 is normally in storage at the museum, but occasionally is on display for various events. The YRON a/c were never assigned Bureau Numbers.

144040 was retired from USN service in 1974 and then acquired by the US Department of Agriculture/US Forest Service. In 1988 it was transferred to the National Naval Aviation Museum. Shown here on the floor of the museum awaiting being rehung in a different location. On display in the museum main building.

125519 served in the Korean War in 1952, assigned to VMO-2. In the photo it is temporarily on the museum floor with rotor blades removed while being rehung in a new location. On display in the museum main building.

The F6U-1 was the first USN jet aircraft to have an afterburner. 122479 is the only survivor of the 30 F6U-1 a/c built. It was restored over a ten year period (2002 - 2012) by the Vought Aircraft Heritage Foundation. It arrived at the museum in February 2012, and is on display on the flightline area.
