This was the third and last D-558-1 built. Built under USN contract with BuNo 37972, it was delivered new directly to NACA in 1949. The a/c conducted 78 flights with NACA and was retired 10 June 1953. It is currently at the Sullenberger Aviation Museum (formerly the Carolinas Aviation Museum) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 1971 to Pacific Aeronautical Corp. and restored as a SBD-5. To Doug Champlin in 1974, and reregistered N17241. Sold to USMC Air & Ground Museum in 1975. Put on display with fake Bureau Number 17241. Later loaned to USAF Museum, where it was restored to A-24 configuration, and is currently on display in the WW2 gallery.
