Our local 'Bobby in th sky' normally stationed at Teeside but here located at Fishburn for the day. Ideally suited to its task with a low cruising speed, and economic running costs, this Islander will probably be replaced by a helicopter within the next 12 months. Northumbria Police Authority
The Northumbrian Police's latest aerial patrol vehicle which replaced Islander G-NESU. I was privileged to be shown over this £3,500,000 machine, which is packed with the latest detection and surveillance systems.
This was a strange aircraft type with a ducted fan pusher propellor. It was capable of very low speed flight and thus making it a considerably cheaper option to helicopters for surveillance work. This example was used by the Police in Northern Ireland
