The identity of this aircraft is not definite. It is not listed in Air Britain's DC-3 monograph but one source says it is N638NA. Air Britain says N638NA was acquired by NASA in 1961. NASA did not adopt civil registrations until around 1969 and used special NASA serials before then. Until evidence to the contrary is produced, NASA 236 has been listed as the same aircraft as N638NA. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

Seen at the Lewis Research Center at CLE in May, 1072. USAAF serial was 43-68086. Other registrations include N14MA, F-WZIG and RP-C1352.

Delivered to the USAAF as 43-48086 in 1944. To NASA as N638NA in 1961 then to Mannion Air Charter as N14MA in 1973. To Century Airlines in 1982. Used for filming in Vietnam then ferried to Manila as F-WZIG in 1991. Registered as RP-C1352 in 1993. Later stored at Manila.

Ex F-WZIG, registered June 1993 to Avia Filipinas and damaged in a taxiing incident at Manilla in 1997. Withdrawn from use. The text on the nose is an ad for Ray-Ban sunglasses. This DC-3 was last noted stored in a yard next to Charlie's hangar Surf-hostel in San Juan, Philippines in 2018. It was used for spares, to restore the complete aircraft on display at the hostel (which is RP-C1354 c/n 25368).

In World War II this C-47 was Air Force 43-48086. Mannion Air Charter of Detroit, MI had it in their fleet from 1972 to 1991 and it's photographed hauling auto parts to Toronto. Sold in 1991, it was ferried to Bangkok for use in a film about French involvement in Vietnam. Registered to Avia Filipinas (RP-C1352) June 1993, the aircraft is presently derelict with three other DC-3s at Manila.
