After the success of the Let L.410 twin engine turboprop in the late 70s, Aeroflot requested a possible replacement for its An-24 aircraft. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union left the project vulnerable and attempts to 'Westernise' the plane were unsuccessful. Only eight aircraft were built (6 flying and 2 for structural tests). This is the fifth prototype, delivered to the Czech AF to support manufacturer's certification and test flights process and now on display at the Letecké Muzeum Kunovice.

Initially N17585 in 1983 prior to delivery to Venezuela as 0005 in 1984. To N990ML and then N500EF in 2002. Withdrawn from use at Fort Lauderdale in 2015.

Stored at Kabul, in a dusty hangar at the military part of the International Airport, was this Czech built (1977) L-39C Albatros. It was cannibalized in 2005/2006 timeframe to keep two other L-39Cs in the air. 005 never flew again, as the two operational Afghan National Army - Air Corps (ANA-AC) were phased out early 2006. 005 was last noted, still withdrawn from use, at Kabul in 2014.

In 1993 the LET company demonstrator was taken on a promotional tour in the colors of the Czech air force. Now it is preserved in the Kunovice museum.
