You can clearly see in this photo how departing floatplanes from Lake Hood make a turn on the water when taking off from the wake left behind. This Beaver had just lifted its left float off of the water and was about to lift the other on departure.

The RCMP put their De Havilland Canada Beavers, Otters and Twin Otters to good use, but by the mid-80s when new aircraft were required, the production lines for those aircraft were closed down. The Beavers and Otters were gradually replaced by Cessna 208 Caravans. One Twin Otter remains today with others replaced by Pilatus PC-12s.
