The B in BNA is for Berry Field. The airport was built in 1936 for the 105th Observation Squadron as well as commercial use. The source gives 3 May 1940 as the photo date but the early B-17s on the left suggest that this may be the airport's June 1937 opening instead. The B in BNA is for Berry Field. The airport was built in 1936 for the 105th Observation Squadron as well as commercial use. The source gives 3 May 1940 as the photo date but the early B-17s on the left suggest that this may be the airport's June 1937 opening instead. This A-4 saw combat in Vietnam with multiple squadrons, both US Navy and US Marine. It is currently on display at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, AL. In the slide the a/c has a design on the fuselage commemorating the U.S. Bicentennial. VA-204 was the last unit assignment for 147787. After two years as a ground instructional airframe at Naval Air Technical Training Command (NATTC) it was retired in 1978. Slide taken by Mr. R.B. Starianchak.
