Showing a bit of wear and tear but still quite a sight at Swarna Jayanti Park, Rohini, this BN might metamorphose into a nicer paint scheme with time, as the chipped paint reveals hints of camo brown and green underneath. The Flogger was inducted in No. 10 Sqn. "Winged Daggers", which operated the same from Jan. 1981 to Dec. 1993. Other IAF units to operate the type were No. 220 Sqn. "Desert Tigers", No. 31 Sqn. "Lions" and No. 221 Sqn. "Valiants", the last unit to phase out their BNs on 06 Mar 2009. BNs were flown in Op Safed Sagar to attack Pakistani positions during the 1999 Kargil War.

On display at the Planes of Fame Air Museum. This is one of the F.2B replicas built for the 1983 film "High Road to China." None were used in the film. In WW1, the F.2A was effective by offensively using the Constantinesco synchronised forward-firing Vickers gun, with the observer acting defensively. It could outdive most German aircraft, would loop well and absorb damage. Different engines were fitted, but most F.2Bs used the 275 h.p. Falcon III. Production ended in Dec. 1926 with 4,469 Bristol Fighters built. The RAF operated these till 1932.

On display at the Planes of Fame Air Museum. This is one of the F.2B replicas built for the 1983 film "High Road to China." None were used in the film. With plenty of time to spare between flights, it was nice to roam around a fairly empty IGIA Terminal 3 at night. The Surya Namaskar statue sculpted by Nikhil Bhandari with 12 asanas of the Yogic exercise is a calming sight in the normally frenetic airport.

"Lil Bill" at Planes of Fame Museum. The military L-17 Navion started as the civilian 185hp NA145 model. It bore some resemblance to the P-51D, but had a tricycle landing gear. The USAAF became interested in 1946 and ordered 83 for observation, liaison and as trainers for ROTC, plus six as unmanned drones. Ryan Aircraft acquired manufacturing rights in 1947, delivering the L-17B and L-17C. In 1960, TUSCO acquired rights and made the L-17. By the time production ended, around 2,500 had been built.

On display at RAF Museum Hendon. The first unit to receive the Defiant was No. 264 (Madras Presidency) Sqn, which put up its turret fighters over The Hague and Dunkirk in May 1940. Unsuitable against the Bf-109, the Defiant was switched to the nightfighter role during the Blitz. This aircraft is the 179th production example and sole survivor of 1,064 built. It was flown by the third Defiant unit, No. 307 (Lvov) Sqn. Defiants saw further use as ECM aircraft to jam Freya radars, as ASR aircraft and target tugs.

Designed by RFC veteran Nicholas Comper, the Swift was built for the private flying market. The prototype was flown around Christmas 1929. Production was underway in 1930 with three variants being offered; the cheapest at £400 powered by the 40 h.p. ABC Scorpion, next by the 50 h.p. Salmson AD9 and lastly the Pobjoy P-engined Swift. The 75 h.p. Pobjoy R Swifts were popular for racing, and some had 110 h.p. in-line Gipsy IIIs and Gipsy Major Is. This aircraft was owned by Alex Henshaw who won the Siddeley Challenge Trophy in 1933.
