On 18 December 2015, Bulgaria ceased operations with the type. Bulgarian operations with the MiG-21 spanned 52 years, with 226 examples in ten variants fielded between 1963 and 1990. In total, some forty of these MiG-21s were written off.

This Mongol-A was delivered to the Czechoslovak AF in April 1965 as 0816. In the late 1980s or early 1990s it was transferred to the VZLU and was adapted to test ejection seats as OK-016. It was retired in May 1997 and is now on display in the grounds of the Vítkovice Machinery Group Museum ('Svět techniky Ostrava / Dolni Vitkovice dnes' can be translated as ''World of Tecnology Ostrava / Lower Vitkovice Today).
