It was written off on 24 Jul'96 while performing Dissimilar Air-to-air Combat Training with USAF F-16s during exercise Cope Thunder from Eielson (AK). XZ361 clipped trees while in a turn some 25 miles north of Anchorage (AK). The pilot managed to retain control but the left engine was damaged and had to be shut down. Unable to restart it and with additional system warning lights illuminating in the cockpit, the pilot decided to eject. He was rescued in the woods by an Alaska ANG team.

This particular prototype landed short of the runway on May 8, 1969 ripping off the nose gear and damaging the nose. Following repairs it appeared at the 1970 SBAC show, but was written off after an engine fire in 1972.

One-off Naval variant. The first flight of the Jaguar M05, registered F-ZWRJ, was carried out at Melun-Villaroche by Jacques Jesberger, test pilot for the Breguet firm on November 14, 1969. On April 20, 1970, the aircraft successfully completed its first landing tests on the ASSP runway at Thurleight, Bedford, United Kingdom. On July 8, it performed its first touch and go on the aircraft carrier Clemenceau off Lorient. A dozen cycles were conducted from the 8th to the 13th before the first real catapult launch was performed on the 10th by LV Daniel Pierre.
