This old Jumbo was chartered from Air France for about six months in 1992. It was eventually broken up at Oklahoma City in March 1994.

BDXO accumulated 61,796 flying hours with British Airways between Apr 1987 and Oct 2001, after which it was stored at Cardiff, Mojave and then Manston. A sale to Air Atlanta Icelandic fell through and on 31 Oct 2003 the aircraft was flown to Amsterdam to be prepared for delivery to European Aircharter. It was painted in their colours, but never delivered. It remained stored at Schiphol, engineless as seen here. The aircraft was eventually broken up here in late 2005. Only the cockpit section survived, which went to the MBO College of Amsterdam Airport in nearby Hooddorp, for instructional use.

The Big Changeover, in the warm Autumn afternoon light, G-AWNH still in original BOAC Speedbird colours, behind G-AWNN the first 747 delivered from Boeing in British Airways colours and across the tarmac another jumbo with the interim scheme , Blue Fin/Speedbird but British Airways on the nose. The BOAC book by Charles Woodley is invaluable for BOAC and BA info.

Landing on Runway 13 at Prestwick this 747 is a regular scheduled service. The railway bridge below the aircraft where the car is parked is a very popular viewing spot for photos when the runway is used in this direction.
