This Tiger Moth was built for the RAAF and saw wartime service as A17-385. It was one of the earlier Tigers on the civil Register, becoming VH-AKE on Christmas Eve, 1946. In the 1950s it was on the strength of the Canberra Aero Club, but now resides in private hands in Kerang, Vic. It certainly got around in 2006, being photographed here at the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Auster Rally.

This aircraft has a long history, having been built during the war by DHA at Mascot and seeing RAAF service as A17-561. In 1946 it was de-mobbed and joined the civil Register with identities VH-AUM, VH-FAH(1) with the Illawarra Flying School, VH-TSA in 1956 and finally VH-LJM. This aircraft is actually a hybrid. When VH-ALI, ex cn DHA436/A17-394, was withdrawn from service in 1959, Airwork P/L at Archerfield combined major parts with other Tigers and re-registered the re-built aircraft using their own cn as VH-AWH. It was later re-registered again as VH-SNJ, then VH-IVN. It was acquired by manufacturer De Havilland Australia and rebuilt again, being re-registered VH-DHV. Still owned by DHA but operated by HARS.

'Salvation Jane' at the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's National Fly-in. This aircraft seems to have been a late starter in its civil career, having first been registered as VH-BTM as late as 5 May 1954. It seems to have suffered a crash in 1959 or 60 and to have been resurrected as VH-AUZ in 1994.

K2576 is purely an adopted identity for this Tiger. It is really the former RAAF A17-748 and post-war became VH-AZI, and later VH-CAD, with Australia's Department of Civil Aviation. In 1953 it was sold to the Tasmanian Aero Club and became VH-BSB. In 1956 it was sold to a private owner but damaged in an accident the following year. The remains were re-built and eventually restored to the Register as VH-ADW in 1973.

This is actually the third Tiger Moth (& the 5th aircraft) to carry the registration VH-RVE: the other Tigers were both old Royal Victorian Aero Club machines. This particular example was built in the UK in 1941 for the RAF as T7093. Post-war it became G-AMMX and later found its way to New Zealand as ZK-BAN, before coming to Australia for a re-build. Seen here at the Wide Bay International Airshow.

'Silver Lady' is actually the second Tiger Moth to carry the rego VH-SSB. It was built to an RAAF order as A17-592 and after the war was civilianised as VH-BBD. In 1958 it was acquired by Super Spread and converted to a cropduster (imagine that!). In 1963 it was re-registered in 'their' block as VH-SSB, replacing an earlier one. Currently restored and maintained in excellent condition by De Havilland collector Ken Orrman at Shep. Lovely!
