Scrapped

A fine buff at the static park of the RIAT 2019. Watch the massive paint damage on the leading edges of the wings, the inlets of the engines and the tail. The cockpit section was also damaged like this. A pilot said, "well probably some hail damage during a previous flight, I'm sorry about that but this was the aircraft we got assigned". This B-52H Stratofortress is alsmost 60 years old and flies out of Barksdale AFB (LA).

This veteran just arrived for retirement at the arrival apron.

In a typical nose-down attitude, "Scalp 99" arrives at Leuchars in beautiful early morning sunshine. The 93rd Bomb Squadron aircraft made the 8 hour annual pilgrimage to the Fife base from its home at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana.

Sitting pretty in lovely early evening sunshine, a B-52H from the 93rd Bomb Squadron made a welcome return to the Fife base. This was the second visit to RAF Leuchars annual airshow by this particular aircraft, named "Cherokee Strip II", having previously taken pride of place in the static park at the 2002 airshow.

In storage since 1969.

Always one of the highlights at Leuchars Airshow is the B-52H, usually from the 93rd Bomb Squadron based at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. Seen here carrying out a flypast on departures day.

This B-52H 'Global Reach and Power' was retired to AMARC in December 2008 with inventory number AABC0488.

This B-52 flew with the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB and was one of the seven B-52s that took part on 16th-17th January 1991 in Operation Secret Squirrel. This was at the time the longest nonstop bombing mission in history by flying than 14,000 miles from Barksdale in 35 hours and a record which would stand for nearly a decade, to fire cruise missiles on the first night of Desert Storm. The frame was retired to AMARG in August 1991 as AABC0376. It was scrapped in November 1999 with the nose section now residing (up tight against the fence) in the Bissell Auto & Body compound in St. Louis.
