Withdrawn from use in 1963. This was around the time Australia grounded Geminis over concerns about deterioration of the glues used in their construction. A story circulated NZ that a Gemini had crashed in Australia due to termite damage. This was not true. The accident that sparked the Australian grounding of several wooden aircraft, including the widely used Anson, involved a Proctor V but no termites. Glue in the wing had failed. First registered in 1947 and locally based at this time. In 1965 it was purchased by a low time private pilot who then proceeded to ferry it to Montréal via the North Atlantic route. Through a miscalculation of range and endurance, the aircraft was wrecked when it ran out of fuel 65 miles short of Goose Bay (CYYR) on the flight from Narsarsuaq (BGBW).
