A long way from the Persian Gulf in amongst the coal fired power stations of East Midlands

This aircraft was in part cargo part passenger configuration and was based at the RR Bristol Filton site. It was operated on behalf of the Turbo Union partnership that designed and built the RB199. However when this shot was taken it was collecting a Spey807 engine to take to Italy.

"El Izalco" landing at MIA. other regns were TI-1056C, G-BGTU and converted to cargo as ZS-NNM.

First flight for this BAC 111 was March 6, 1967 with delivery to LACSA Costa Rica as TI-1056C the following month. Sold to TACA International as YS-01C on April 11, 1973. It was bought by Turbo Union February 16, 1979 and a large forward cargo door was added. Operated by the Rolls-Royce Flying Unit on behalf of Turbo-Union, transporting engines and personnel (in the 39 seat aft cabin) for the Panavia Tornado program. Bought by Nationwide Air Charter and registered ZS-NNM by April 5 1994, the aircraft was stored at Lanseria, South Africa and broken up in 2005.

"El Tico" was delivered new to LACSA of Costa Rica in April 1967 and served them until sale in April 1973 to TACA as YS-01C.
