This strange monument is situated at Bukittinggi's former airfield. During Indonesia's independence struggle, the real RI-003 (RAF serial AX505) crashed on its way from Burma to Bukittinggi in December 1947. The crew were killed, among them Halim Perdanakusuma, who gave his name to Jakarta's military airport.
