These remains belong to a Messerschmitt Bf-109E-3a, a very early export version of the notorious German fighter. Said to be Werk Nr. 2372 with serial L-61it was intended for export to Yugoslavia. It was however not delivered in 1940. It seems to have traces of an unusual mix of German and Yugoslav painting. On the (very) long run intended for restoration.

Peenemünde became well known as the test flight centre for the Luftwaffe during WW II. Next to the tests with V1 and V2 missiles, the base saw the maiden flights of the Heinkel 176 jet and Messerschmitt 163 rocketplanes. Since 1961 the base was used by the NVA (Nationale Volksarmee or DDR forces, which used it until 1990. Main unit was the Jagdfliegergeschwader 9 (JG-9) (english: Fighter Wing 9) with MiG-21 and later MiG-23 in different versions. From 1972 the Zieldarstellungskette 33 (ZDK-33) (roughly: Target Towing Flight 33) was also stationed at Peenemünde airfield.
