Delivered to the RAF in January 1963 and serving 27 Sqdn, the Cottesmore and Waddington Wing/44 Sqdn, this Vulcan was ferried to Cardiff for the Wales Aircraft Museum in January 1983. The climate was not kind to the airframe and when the museum closed in 1996 it was scrapped, although the nose was saved and is now at Staverton. The aircraft is seen here having encountered some kind of emergency.

XL444 first flew from Woodford in October 1961, being delivered in the all-white scheme to 27 Sqdn the following month but was apparently prone to technical issues, so spent a fair bit of time on maintenance. It was back at Woodford inh September 1964 for a refit before going to the Scampton Wing in June 1965. It served with 617 Sqn as part of the Scampton Wing before receiving the squadron's 'Dambusters' emblem in 1971 as seen here. Other units served were 35 Sqdn, 230 OCU and Waddington Wing. It was sold for scrap at the end of 1982

First flying in August 1958, it was initially used for trials and underwent A&AEE acceptance testing in 1962 before service with 206 and 201 Sqdns. In 1965/6 it underwent Phase III modifications with the addition of Viper turbojets in the outer nacelles, next going to the Kinloss Wing and back to the A&AEE. It was finally despatched to meet its fate at Manston in August 1971
