Tracing it origins back to the British Nieuport Nighthawk fighter, the Grouse sesquiplane led to the Grebe fighter. The sole Grouse, G-EAYN, was converted to a two-seat trainer and sold to Sweden in December 1925 where it was designated Ö3 as an 'exercise' (advanced trainer) type aircraft. It was withdrawn from use in 1929. Photo by: Karl Johan Stenhardt / Östergötlands Museum

Gloster Gamecock demonstrator at Malmen in the summer of 1926. The Swedish air force selected the type but no order was placed. Fighters tended to be seen as frills in countries that had not fought the Great War. The wing struts are marked FP / RP G/5.15425. The construction number is supposedly '95/12877' but it is lacking in the original register entry for G-EBNT. Photo from: Flygvapenmuseum

First flown in 1930, the Bánhidi Gerle (dove) was a Hungarian sport aircraft of which nine or ten exampes were built, in eight versions! Designer Antal Bánhidi and Tibor Bisits flew the Gerle 13 around the Mediterranean in early 1933. Their route is marked on the tailfin. That summer Bánhidi flew it from Debrecen to Croydon via Northern Europe, then back to Debrecen non-stop. The operator is the flying club of the Budapest technical university, which also built this airframe. A flying replica of the Gerle 13 was built in 1988.
