Polder Aviation

In April 1918, a Hansa-Brandenburg W.12 made an emergency landing in the neutral territory of the Netherlands, where it was interned and flight tested by the Dutch. In 1919 the Netherlands bought a licence to build the aircraft and 35 W.12s were subsequently manufactured by the Van Berkel company of Rotterdam as the W-A, serving with the Dutch Naval Air Service until 1933. This replica is under construction in the Aviodrome restoration hangar.

This C-47 was built at Long Beach and TOC by the USAAF as 42-23974 and then passed, firstly, to the RAF as FD938 and then to the SAAF as 6867. It also carried the registrations ZS-NJE and G-BVOL in civilian life but is now in retirement at the Aviodrome at Lelystad.

Even though these striking sponsor colours allowed this magnificent aircraft to appear at various airshows between 2003 and 2007, it is not right for such a rare machine, the last flying example of its type. Luckily it was later repainted in its authentic Royal Navy markings as XP924. Unfortunately it suffered a wheels-up landing at RNAS Yeovilton on 27 May 2017, which caused extensive damage to the belly and structural frames of the centre fuselage. By mid 2018 it was still uncertain if the aircraft will ever return to the air. Sorry for the poor photo quality.

Amicale Jean Baptiste Salis acquired this venerable aircraft in 1990, and they still operated it at airshows by 2019! This aircraft consists of a Junkers-built fuselage (c/n 24?), mated with CASA-built wings. It served with the Spanish AF as T.2B-212 until 1976, when it was sold as G-BECL.

Carries very small "Stichting Antonov" (= Antonov Society) titles on this side, and a small "Skyriders" logo on the left side.

Classic KLHV Beech and Harvard formation. Their Beech 18 PH-KHV / G-29 is leading, with PH-LSK / B-64 on its right and PH-MLM / B-71 on its left. PH-IIB / B-118 is following behind.

Owned by UK-based European Flyers (Tony Holden), but was based at Lelystad shortly before its appearance here at the Airshow Lelystad 2004. The aircraft remained at Lelystad until 16 May 2006, when it departed for the USA. In 2010 it was sold to Colombia, where it unfortunately met its fate when it crashed into a mountain near San Vicente del Caguán, Caqueta in Colombia on 8 May 2014.

This magnificent amphibian arrived in the Netherlands in 1995, initially owned by Martin van Schie as C-FHHR, then N27311 and finally PH-PBY. It changed hands in May 2000, and following an extensive restoration this aircraft first flew again exactly a month before this photo was taken. It was painted in these Netherlands Navy colours three weeks later, and this photo shows its first public appearance as such. Unfortunately it suffered an engine failure on 21 April 2017, and was withdrawn from use. Repairs proved too expensive, and in 2018 it was decided to offer the aircraft for sale. It departed to the USA in May 2019.

Was registered as PH-KHV a bit over a year before this photo was taken, but it has been based in the Netherlands for much longer, since 1988 (initially as N5369X). Note the very small and barely visible "Koninklijke Luchtmacht Historische Vlucht" titles just below the cockpit. On the right side similarly small titles read "Royal Netherlands Airforce Historical Flight".
