The aircraft on the near end of the apron is the former Pan Am DC-7CF N745PA which was written off earlier that year. Work is in progress extending the runway from the initial 1900m to 2300m.

K25 slide scan. Built 1959 as N129US for Northwest. From 1970 further registrations N777DP, PT-DZK, N8LG, N360Q, N360WS, N360Q. Air Spray C-GYVI 2003. Leased by JBQ to Hunting 1994. Seen about to be marshalled out of its parking stand on a DHL flight the Electra's stub wings and powerful appearence are prominent.

Negative from FNG Archive. While operating a cargo flight from Frankfurt to Stuttgart in poor weather fog persisted at the destination in combination with partly unservicable approach lights and an unreliable glide slope. Letting down below minima the aircraft struck ground shortly before and north of the threshold tearing off the complete undercarriage and #3 engine. Surprisingly a go around could be initiated and the flight was diverted to Nuremberg were a belly landing was carried out on the foamed runway. Subsequently scrapped. Note escape rope from cockpit window and feathered #2 engine.

K25 slide scan. Delivered 1970. While operating LH 527 Rio to Dakar 26 July 1979 the aircraft flew into a mountain shortly after take off after having received wrong ATC instructions and was destroyed.

K25 slide scan. Delivered 1962 as PH-LIP to Philips as corporate aircraft. WDL 1975, operating for DLT several times. Withdrawn 1997 at Essen and scrapped two years later. Although never operating for IFG the aircraft was painted up in their basic scheme.

Both DC-6's were occasional visitors on freight charters taking advantage of the fact that a piston engined aircraft could operate under VFR rules thus avoiding slots. Ready to taxi for positioning back to Coventry while DHL hub traffic was being held and piling up on the service road to enable an uncluttered shot to be taken.

K25 slide scan. Built 1973 as YR-IRB for Tarom, CofA expired 1993. Trans Asian UN-86502 1998, withdrawn Almaty 1999, last noted 2001. After several years of storage at Otopeni the aircraft gained a new albeit short lease of life in Kazakhstan. Pulling away from its northern apron parking. Il-62's had a rather unique aerodynamic feature as the wing leading edges had no slats but two different fixed profiles, the joint being seen clearly about halfway down the wing.
