This was the sole Menasco M-50 powered Aeronca 50. A deal between Menasco and Aeronca broke down after 10 engines were delivered which were fitted KM Chiefs (nine built). NC21070 was later fitted with a Continental A-50 and redesignated Aeronca 50C. Preserved at the New England Air Museum, Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

Served two years with Aerovías NPR. Converted into a landplane and sold to the Canadian air force. Registered CF-BRO to satisfy US neutrality laws. Crashed at Tampa, Florida, at the start of its delivery flight to Canada on October 12, 1940. Kofresi is the name of the aircraft, not the airline. Roberto Kofresi (also spelled Cofresi) was a 19th century Puerto Rican pirate, which explains the pirate artwork on the fin. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

NC10899 was cancelled in 1948. Who Eddie Lyons was is not explained but his arrival in New York City made the movie newsreels. Lyons is not the early 20th century actor of that name because he had died in 1926. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution

Air Line Feeder System was a small airline that served the New England region of the US. Ceased operations in September 1939. NC15109 flew on into the 1950s in Alaska. The last registered owner was Grand Central Airport Co at Glendale, CA. Registration cancelled in 1955 and the airport closed a few years later. The airport was run by Corliss Moseley, who continued to restore old aircraft on the airport site until 1972. What happened to NC15109 (N15109) is not known. Designed by Swen Swanson. Power is a Warner Scarab engine. Design evolved into the Swanson-Fahlin SF-1 of 1934. Not clear how many W-15s were built but there was a c/n 1 (NC10546) and this aircraft, c/n 3. NC751Y's registration cancelled in 1946. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution
