Stored in its original USAF markings, still named "Georgia Box", and still with a faded Air National Guard emblem on the fin.

This C-119 flew with the USAF in the 1950s as 53-8151 and was based at Dreux/Senoches in France with the 12th Troop Carrier Squadron. At that time it bore the name "The Great Pretender". Its former USAF radio operator, the late Chuck Lunsford, provided me with this information.

Built for USAF by Kaizer-Frazer as C-119G. Delivered to Italy and modified to C-119J. Operated by 46 Aerobrigata based at Pisa.

My first US trip included a highly rewarding excursion to the USAF Museum at Wright Field. This great old West Virginia ANG bird was shot from the pool of my nearby lodgings. In 1971 she visited Greenham Common, UK, from her Charleston base as a C-119G with 4-blade props but was modified to 'L' standard with 3 blades soon after. At one point she was also a test bed for Stealth technology, painted black with special $300/gallon paint. The frame still survives, exhibited at Fort Bragg, NC

Brought to Greybull by Hawkins and Powers more than a decade before the photo date and probably still there. The large code on the nose goes back to the aircraft's first identity: 53-8076 with the California ANG at Hayward, until withdrawn from use in 1975.

N90267 is seen here being used as a spares source, possibly by Northern Pacific Transport. A sad end for former USAF Flying Boxcar 53-8154 and ex civil N4999P. It was completely scrapped by 1996, but the forward fuselage was saved. This initially went to Greybull, WY, then in 2006 it was moved to Henderson, NV, and finally in 2013 to the Palm Springs Air Museum in Palm Springs, CA.

In 1992 most C-82's and C-119's at Anchorage were sold to Hawkins and Powers and moved to their base at Greybull in Wyoming. A few C-119s stayed behind, but most of them later also departed to other airfields, such as Fairbanks or Palmer. This former Northern Pacific Transport N9027K (ex 53-8073) was the only one to remain behind at Anchorage, and it was still there by mid 2017.
