The former RAAF base at Uranquinty looking west from the 1950s control tower. Over the next few years the air force buildings were sold and removed and the land reverted to agriculture. The concrete floor of Hangar 205 still exists, as does the floor of the hangar to its left and the one immediately below the tower. They have found new purpose as bases for farm buildings and silos.

Photo taken about a year after the RAAF base closed for the second and last time. It had been built during World War II as part of the Empire Air Training Scheme. It closed after the war and became a camp for displaced persons from Europe. The RAAF returned in September 1951 with the No. 1 Basic Flying Training School until it returned to RAAF Point Cook in December 1958. The hangars and buildings were auctioned in the 1960s and airfield sold as farmland. The control tower in the photo is not the wartime structure. That was relocated to Evetts Field near Woomera.

Archerfield's heritage-listed operations building , designed before World War II but not completed until 1941. It followed the British practice of a combined terminal, control tower and offices. Airline services moved to Eagle Farm postwar and a new tower was built in 1974. The control tower cupola which topped the old building was subsequently removed. Similar buildings were erected at Sydney Mascot and Parafield in Adelaide. Both still exist although Sydney's, now part of the Qantas terminal, is hidden behind later developments.
