Following the first heavy rain shower (commonplace in the Farnborough area in September) this strange bird landed. I did not know what it was, except that it was obviously an Islander of some sort. It was described as 'Three Engined Islander in the Air Pic check list. The three-engined BN-2A Mk3 was not formally named 'Trislander' until January 1971.

In the early 60s at BEA's insistence De Havilland downsized their Trident project to about 80percent of the 727 weight and thrust. By the late 60s BEA wanted to buy 727s and 737s but a political compromise was constructed whereby the Trident 3B with its RB-162 booster engine was purchased instead of the 727, and the BAC-111-500 instead of the 737. THe booster engine made the Trident 3B noisy. Some were exported to China

It was a usual for the latest military export aircraft from Britain to carry a civil registration for the Farnborough show. I think you can assume the Strikemaster could only carry a selection of these weapons at once! The appropriate London gangland phrase was 'tooled up' I believe. Became 315 when delivered to Singapore

This was apparently the first Belfast to fly and whilst it was tricky to keep serviceable, it was the last example operational as G-HLFT. Seen rolling down the runway at the Farnborough Air Show

The BAC One-Eleven 475 was the 'hot and high' version of this bus-stop jet, combining the -500s more powerful Spey engines with the lighter -400 airframe, and at cold wet Farnborough it gave a lively show....Noisy, though!

LTV had a large order book for the A-7 because the Vietnam war was still being fought. The A-7E was fitted with the Allison licence built Rolls-Royce Spey, which entitled the A-7E to be exhibited at Farnborough(formerly for British/Commonwealth planes only). This was A-7E was serving with VA195 on the USS Kittyhawk
