2nd Islander, converted to prototype Mk.3, later named Trislander, showing original fin design before the addition of further vertical area above the engine used on production examples. Cancelled as PWFU just two months later on 23 November 1970.

This was exported to the USA the following year but as N650LP crashed into the Caribbean Sea, off Turks and Caicos Islands in 2008 with the loss of all 12 on board. Scanned from a slide.

Following the first heavy rain shower (commonplace in the Farnborough area in September) this strange bird landed. I did not know what it was, except that it was obviously an Islander of some sort. It was described as 'Three Engined Islander in the Air Pic check list. The three-engined BN-2A Mk3 was not formally named 'Trislander' until January 1971.
