This magnificently powerful aeroplane is operated by the Royal Navy Historic Flight and is pictured taxying in after a super flying display at Flying Legends 2014. Unfortunately this aircraft was badly damaged during a forced landing at Culdrose just over two weeks later.

This Spitfire was built at Chattis Hill in 1945 and then shipped to India to serve with the RAF and then the Indian Air Force. It was one of eight Spitfires recovered from India in 1977. Unfortunately in 2008 as SE-BIN it crashed at Tynset in Norway when the aircraft veered off the runway during landing killing the pilot. Another restoration, painted as a No. 28 Squadron machine that served in Hong Kong during July 1950, has led to her return to the air in Flying Legends 2014.

Early morning bad weather resulted in some participants missing out on the first day of flying Legends 2014. This gorgeous P-51 arrived halfway through the flying programme but better late than never!

Taking off at Flying Legends 2014. Painted in unusual Norway AF / RAF No. 20 Transport Squadron markings, which were only briefly carried in Norway between June 1945 and Feb 1946. This Squadron, unrelated to the RAF's own No.20 Squadron, was in fact a continuation of the German Air Force 20 Transportfliegergeschwader. The squadron, formally controlled by the RAF, was the first step in re-establishing civil aviation in Norway after the war, using several DC-3s and Lockheed L-18 Lodestars. In 1946 the DC-3s were transferred to DNL, Norway's main pre-war airline and one of the predecessors of SAS.
