'The remains of a T-33 jet trainer after it crashed at Tye base Monday morning. The pilot, Jacques Chataigner, 20, climbed out unhurt.' Tye was renamed Dyess AFB in 1956. B-50D of 43 Bomb Wing, 15th Air Force, wearing the name "Thunderbird" on its nose making a very low level run at Yeadon during the 1953 SSAFA air show. Built as a B-50A, it had later been modified to B-50D standard including fitment of underwing tanks. This was the last rotation of an SAC B-50 wing through the UK before full replacement by B-47 Stratojets.
