The OMAR Mine Museum (OMAR = Organization for Mine clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation) in Kabul city unexpectedly showed me a number of preserved aircraft. Several former Afghan Air Force aircraft and helicopters were on display, but the war badly damaged most aircraft as well as the infrastructure of the museum. Luckily a large wall around the museum saved the inventory from further damage. This Su-7 was a composite aircraft (two construction numbers were seen 5806 left and 5804 right main wheel bay. The Fitter was repainted with donated money.

This Yak-40 is former CCCP-87255, and the titles it carries read "Destruction of one landmine is to shut a door of poverty, disability and bigging". The last word should probably read "begging".

Four A-10s at their revetment parking spots at Kandahar. The large concrete walls protect the aircraft for indirect fires, like rockets of mortars. When such a weapon impact the platform or revetments, hopefully only one aircraft will be damaged. The 104th Fighter Squadron "Baltimore Oriole" is a unit of the Maryland Air National Guard, 175th Wing stationed at Baltimore/Martin State (MD), also named Warfield Air National Guard Base, Middle River. Visible are three other A-10Cs: 78-0682, 78-0702 and 78-0719.

An-124 beging unloaded at one of the ramps of Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan. Check the background of the picture where you can see the massive daily activity of the once busiest signle runway airfield in the world. The ramp behind the Condor is filled with a civil fleet of Mi-8 variants and a Ka-27 that serve among other things, humanitarian relieve missions, while leaving the runway is a civil Beech 1900D. Entering the runway are two Blackwater Aviation Casa 212s, while in the far distance several USAF and RAF C-130s can be seen.

A Dyess AFB (TX) based at the main ramp at Kandahar Airfield. Tens of USAF C-130s, mainly Air National Guard, were deployed for several months into Afghan theatre before relieved by others. They did not belong to the same unit, so a large diversity of squadron could be seen through the country.
