Veha Akat was a 'French' airline operating in Laos. F-LAAN and sister aircraft F-LAAM (c/n 989) were delivered in January 1957, shortly before this photo was taken. Owner then listed as Compagnie Laotienne de Commerce et de Transport (CLCT) but this was changed to Societé Veha Akat in 1959. Certificates of airworthiness suspended in October 1961 and April 1961, respectively. Both aircraft listed as written off on 2 April 1970. Photo by: Joel Halpern / University of Wisconsin-Madison

'An Air America C-123 delivering supplies and picking up Laotian troops at Long Tieng.' This was a 'secret city of 40,000' built by the Americans. Still without jet pods here, this Provider was converted to C-123K standard in the spring of 1969 and returned to USAF service as 54-671. To Laotian air force in 1972, and to Thai air force in 1975. According to Joe Baugher, 'now at Titusville.' A C-123 wreck marked 671 was used for a crash scene in the movie Air America in 1990. Photo by: Robert L Wofford / University of Wisconsin-Madison

This Swiss-built Porter was delivered to the Swiss air force as V-611 in 1962. After an engine malfunction at the Tschierva Glacier in 1963 it was disassembled, but a helicopter dropped its wing in a crevice. The glacier released it in 2015! Through Foshing Airlines in Taiwan, the rebuilt aircraft was delivered to Air America in 1966, fitted with a Garrett turboprop. It is seen near the LS-36 airstrip at Na Khang in Laos. It crashed in 1973. Photo by: Ernest Kuhn / University of Wisconsin-Madison
