A 306 squadron F-16A with three large fueltanks seen during its overshoot at Soesterberg air base. The Fighting Falcon was delivered to the KLu on 27 June 1983 and was sold to Chile as 721. The aircraft left Duch soil for the final time on 4 September 2006.
The Netherlands AF used the locally developed Orpheus reconnaissance pod with the 306 recce squadron. After the Starfighter was withdrawn the pods were used with the F-16. These pods served well into the nineties.
The public debut of the recce version of the F-16. The Netherlands AF was the sole operator of the F-16 in the recce role. The Orpheus pod was transferred from the Starfighter onto the F-16 that demanded some changes in the wiring. Unfortunately this aircraft was w/o in a fatal crash on the 15th of April 1986
