Fighter Squadron (VF) 194 "Red Lightnings" was a short-lived Tomcat unit. It was re-established on 1 Dec'86 and disestablished on 30 Apr'88. VF-194 was planned together with VF-191 for a cruise on the USS Independence as part of CVW-10, but before the cruise could take place the squadron and wing ceased to exist. The squadron lineage runs back to 1952 as it was originally established as VF-91 on 26 Mar'52, redesignated VF-194 on 1 Aug'63 and disestablished on 1 Mar'78. This 161297 was delivered to the USN on 2 Mar'82, retired to AMARC on 13 Sep'04 and left for HVF West for scrap on 22 Jul'09.

This F-4J is painted in the Ferris deceptive paint scheme. This scheme was evaluated by the USN on several different types of aircraft in 1976 and 1977. Developed by Keith Ferris, a well known aviation artist, it was not adopted for official use.

Rare pic of VF-194 aircraft. VF-194 received F-4Js in 1976, but was, after only one cruise with USS Coral Sea, disbanded on 1 March 1978. This aircraft was later converted to F-4S.

153798 is seen here in an experimental colour scheme. It was later converted to F-4S and written off on 8 October 1982 when it crashed in the sea off the Philippines while serving with VMFA-312.

The squadron lineage runs back to 1952 as it was originally established as VF-91 on 26 March 1952, redesignated VF-194 on 1 August 1963 and disestablished on 1 March 1978.

As an F-14 squadron, VF-194 was in existence for about 17 months. Here is NM-201 from that squadron with only about 6 weeks before they were dis-established.
