By this time YR-ABC was in TAROM's new livery

Delivered in June 1974 and leaded to Air Afrique in 1995, followed by JARO, EAS and in 2002 Amako Airlines as 5N-KMA. In September 2003 registered 9G-IRL with Johnsons Air. W/o on 19th March 2005 while operated by Cargo Plus Aviation for Ethiopian Airlines on a cargo flight from Addis Ababa to Lomé, Togo. While making a second approach to Entebbe in rain for a fuel stop, the aircraft descended too low over Lake Victoria, struck a rock and broke up as it ditched into the lake

Taken from the Queens building viewing terrace. This aircraft was delivered new to Tarom in 1974 so when I saw it it was only 4 years old ! In those days the Eastern European airlines were more likely to turn up with a Tupolev or Ilyushin but Tarom also had a fleet of 707's and 1-11's. Delivered new to Tarom as YR-ABC on 03 Jun 1974. To Amoko Airlines as 5N-KMA in Aug 2002. To First International Airways as 9G-IRL in Nov 2003. W/O at Entebbe on 19 Mar 2005. Crashed into Lake Entebbe in rain on its second attempt to land which was too low. The crew of five luckily survived.

According to my notes it was apparently operating for Air Memphis

Delivered TAROM in June '74. Over to Amako Airlines in August 2002.(5N-KMA). In November 2003 to Johnsons Air (9G-IRL). Crashed 19 March 2005 on touchdown near Entebbe Airport.

In grim light conditions with the then new TAROM tail colours and small titles: Romanian Air Transport. It would be written off at Entebbe (Uganda) 19 Mar 2005 as 9G-IRL.

TAROM used to stop in Amsterdam during their flight to Chicago.
