The CV-240 prototype was fitted with Allison 501 (T38) turboprops, becoming America's first jet-powered airliner when it first flew as the CV-240-21 Turbo-Liner on 29 December 1950. The project was apparently led by Allison and the aircraft was registered to GM in 1951. It is seen here with the Convair XF-92A, 46-682, which was painted white in 1951. Prototype. First flew as NX90849 in 1947. Reregistered as N24501 in 1948, N112G in 1959, N192L in 1964, N195L in 1965 and N240BN in 1976. Withdrawn from use at Opa-Locka in 1980. Scrapped after 1987.

The very first Convairliner, first flown as NX90849 from Lindbergh Field in San Diego on March 16th 1947. Subsequently registered to various corporate owners as N24501, N112G, N192L and N195L and finally N240BN in 1976. Notably, in 1950 as N24501. the aircraft was converted to a Convair 240-21 with two Allison 501 turboprops and became the first turboprop airliner to fly in the USA. Later converted back to piston power, and despite surely being an airframe worthy of preservation, the aircraft was sadly scrapped after several years of storage at Opa Locka.
