The CV-240 prototype was fitted with Allison 501 (T38) turboprops, becoming America's first jet-powered airliner when it first flew as the CV-240-21 Turbo-Liner on 29 December 1950. The project was apparently led by Allison and the aircraft was registered to GM in 1951. It is seen here with the Convair XF-92A, 46-682, which was painted white in 1951. The CV-240-21 was unsuccessful but N24501 continued to be used for Allison 501 testing until 1959 when it was converted back to Double Wasp power. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum
