ZA714 was deployed in support of Operation Herrick to Kandahar and is seen here while landing. It's rotating door mounted M134 6 barrels minigun is pointing downwards. The gun has a high rate of fire, capable of 2,000-4,000 rpm of 7.62mm bullets

Former Boeing test registration N37033, It was delivered as a HC1 to the RAF on 30 Aug'81 (with c/n MA016). Converted to HC2 (with c/n M7006). The Chinook was damaged on 25 Nov'99 during a crash in Oman, 5 miles south of Seeb IAP during night training mission with Special Forces. It was flown back to Brize Norton on 13 Dec'99 aboard an An-124 (RA-82046). It was repaired at Fleetlands using parts of former Argentinian Army CH-47C ZH257. Converted to HC4 by Vector Aerospace Ltd at Fleetlands by early '14 and to HC-6A by Boeing at Boscombe Down by mid-'19. Seen here in late afternoon at Kandahar.

Converted to HC4 by Vector Aerospace Ltd at Fleetlands in 2014 and saw again a modification to HC6A by Boeing at Boscombe Down during 2018. Check that cockpit section and the top of one of the blades, the workhorese shows very heavy wear and tear due to the tough mission in the difficult Afghan weather and dust environment.

Former Boeing test registration N37044, was delivered to the RAF on 18 Nov'81 as a Chinook HC1 (with construction number MA022). It left the RAF inventory for Boeing Philiadelphia via Liverpool Docks on 4 Nov'93, returned as a HC2 ( with construction number M7003). It was modified to HC4 by Vector Aerospace Ltd at Fleetlands in 2012/2013 timeframe, then in 2018 to HC6A by Boeing at Boscombe Down. The Chinook is seen here - as one of seven deployed RAF Chinooks to Kandahar - as a HC2. It shows quite some wear and tear due to the tough Afghan mission, and the weather and dust environment.

About to touch down on Runway 30 at Prestwick, returning after a sortie as PEGASUS1. Taken on strength new by the RAF in 1981 as an HC1. Converted to an HC2 in 1995. Later became an HC4 and then an HC6A. In 2022, based at RAF Odiham with 27 Squadron, became the first Chinook to clock over 14,000 flying hours, making it the oldest ever serving Chinook in the RAF.

This Chinook saw for sure many combat landings in Afghanistan, it is weathered by oil leaks and is has sand all over. ZA707 was delivered to the RAF on 28 September 1981 as a HC1 version. It was later converted to HC2 and much later to HC4 and even to HC6A. As such, it was still flying within the RAF in 2024.
