To support Operation Unified Protector, the fight against Lybian dictator Khadaffi, this Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) was based at Souda. It is former Boeing N1785B (Jan'70), was sold as a CC-137 tanker to the Royal Canadian Air Force (serial 13702) on 28 Feb'70. Omega Air bought the aircraft on 20 Dec'93, it became HR-AMF. Served then TransBrasil Linhas Aereas up to 6 Apr'94. Became PT-TCU, and later EL-AKT. Sold to the USAF on 27 Feb'97, was modified to JSTARS and assigned to the 116th Air Control Wing at Robins AFB (GA). It was moved to AMARG on 12 Jul'22.

The former Wardair B707-396C C-FZYP (my photo here) was seized by the US Justice Department after a drug smuggling incident in May 1981 and allocated USAF serial 85-6973. Modified by Northrop Grumman as a JSTARS aircraft and reserialled 00-2000, it was active with 128th ACCS Georgia ANG here at Robins AFB from 2003 to September 2019. Ex N370WA Boeing 707-373C was delivered to World Airlines on 3 August 1967. Flash forward to 2013, this aircraft has been converted to an E-8C J-Stars by and for the United States Air Force, which is equipped with a capable radar and sensor suite. Its cockpit clearly showing the age of the airframe though....

This E-8C J-Stars was deployed to the Caribbean in August 2013, putting its capabilities to good use for counternarcotics operations. It's expeditionary unit at the time was 11th EACCS "Mare Nostrum".

Non-standard E-8C with JS-code for Joint STARS, the only one equipped with Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines. A plan to re-engine the entire fleet fell through and the E-8C airframes will be replaced by a new capacity. This aircraft came to Hato in the Summer of 2011 to conduct various tests over the Caribbean.
