At the time of the photograph the aircraft had been parked unflown in the private hangar area at Palm Springs International Airport for over 15 years. It was still visible there on Google Earth imagery date July 2019, but had disappeared by the imagery update in June 2021

First flown in November 1961 it was delivered to BEA at Heathrow as V.953 Vanguard "Superb" on 13th December 1961. During 1970/71 it was converted as a V.953C Merchantman and re-delivered to BEA Cargo, (renamed British Airways Cargo on 1st April 1974), on 8th March 1971. Sold to Air Bridge Carriers, (Hunting Air Cargo from 1992), in November 1979, it was stored at East Midlands Airport until entering service in 1981. When retired in September 1996 it was the last airworthy Merchantman, and made its last flight on 17th October 1996 when it was donated to the Brooklands Museum by Hunting PLC.

Photographed on the old North Apron at Heathrow, operated by CATAIR but devoid of markings. Its was withdrawn from use and parked at Cormeilles-Pontoise in late 1971; parting out for spares commenced the following year with final breaking up occurring in late 1974 into early 1975.

The aircraft's Certificate of Airworthiness expired on in July 1973 and it was dismantled at Blackbushe in 1974. It was last noted stored at Eggesford in Devon in October 2023.

The aircraft's last Certificate of Airworthiness expired on 31st May 1992 and it was deregistered by the CAA on 30th July 1996. Last reported stored at Farley Farm airstrip in Hampshire.

Photographed on very short final for the now disused runway 23L at London-Heathrow. The aircraft was withdrawn from use in 1987 and is now displayed at at Aeropark Budapest at Budapest Ferihegy Airport.

Note Wardair Boeing 707-396C CF-ZYP and Spantax Convair 990 Coronado EC-BJC in the background. The nose section of this Convair was last reported stored in the back lot of the Planes of Fame Museum, Chino, CA.
