This Castle Bromwich-built Spitfire was delivered to the RAF on 27 February 1945 and allocated to 453 (RAAF) Squadron. In 1955 it was used in the movie Reach for the Sky, then stored at Pinewood Studios until 1967. The following year it was acquired as a restoration project, being registered G-CDAN in 1982 and making its first flight in September 1988. In January 1989 it was re-registered ZK-XVI. In 2006 it was sold to the Temora Aviation Museum, becoming VH-XVI on 17 July that year.

Built by Supermarine during late 1945. This Spitfire was not commissioned with the Royal Air Force (RAF) until 1951 and operated until 1956 when decommissioned. During 1956, New Zealander Sir Keith Park, commander of RAF No 11 Fighter Group during the Battle of Britain and Defence of Malta had this Spitfire donated and temporarily displayed at Hobsonville Airfield. Afterwards, donated to Auckland War Memorial Museum to honour the RNZAF personnel who flew Spitfires during WWII.

This replica was made for a TV series, James May's Toy Stories. It is an up-scaled Airfix model, as far as practically possible, and was put together by children from a local school. Whilst it does not stand really close scrutiny, it does look pretty good!
